Inspiring Future Lawyers

One of the many strengths of St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School is the lasting connection it shares with its alumni. Past students regularly return to inspire and mentor current students, sharing their experiences and insights across a range of fields. One such alumna is Class of 2006 graduate, Jess Hotchkin.

An accomplished barrister, Jess dedicates a full day each year to working with VCE Legal Studies students, providing valuable insight into life as a lawyer, career pathways and the realities of the legal profession. Students have the opportunity to work through a case from beginning to end, culminating in a moot court trial where Jess offers real-time feedback and guidance.

With her trained legal eye and keen attention to detail, Jess helps students identify subtle nuances in courtroom proceedings, strengthening their advocacy skills and deepening their understanding of legal processes. Applying classroom theory in a practical setting allows students to consolidate their learning and build confidence as they prepare for their mid-year exams.

Jess’s annual visit is an invaluable learning experience, giving students first-hand insight into the legal profession and the pathways to becoming a lawyer. Her guidance not only enhances their understanding of the subject but also encourages them to pursue their aspirations with greater confidence and clarity.
