Learning with purpose
Guided by their educators, St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School Years 5 and 6 students have led a Junior School donation drive in support of the Yiyili Aboriginal Community through the Remote Op Shop Project.
The Remote Op Shop Project supports First Nations self-determination by creating opportunities for remote communities to generate their own income through the sale of donated goods. This income can then be directed towards projects and priorities identified by the community, strengthening local decision-making and independence.
Prep to Year 6 students and families demonstrated the strength of community by generously donating goods, which will help support a community-run op shop and create income for locally led projects and initiatives.
The project has also given students valuable opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork and organisational skills while learning about First Nations self-determination, social responsibility and the importance of supporting community-led initiatives.
