Honours at International Tournament
St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School’s STEM Primary team represented Victoria at the Tournament of Minds (TOM) International Finals in Sydney, earning a prestigious ‘Honours’ title.
Consisting of students from Years 4 to 6, the team advanced to the international level after winning first place in STEM Primary at the Victorian state finals in September, following their victory in the Gippsland Regional in August.
TOM is an international educational program aimed at fostering creative problem-solving skills in primary and secondary students. Students tackle complex, open-ended challenges from one of the disciplines of The Arts, STEM, Language Literature and Social Sciences.
In preparation for the competition, students personalised their learning experience by challenging themselves to develop critical skills such as time management, discipline and collaboration, ready to compete in a challenging and competitive environment. Educators and mentors provided valuable support throughout the process, encouraging the team at each event.
St Paul’s Head of Warragul Junior School, Rowan van Raay was impressed with the students’ accomplishments. “The team did an amazing job in the lead-up and during the competition,” he said. “They were presented with Honours, which is an outstanding achievement and they should be extremely proud of their efforts, just as the school community is.”
The 2024 TOM International Finals brought together schools from across Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates.
