St Paul’s graduate a ‘Top Scribe’
St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School 2024 Year 12 graduate, Lucinda, has earned state-level recognition with her short story selected for publication in the inaugural Top Scribe anthology – a new addition to the VCE Season of Excellence.
Top Scribe celebrates the creative writing talents of VCE Literature students from across Victoria, with just 22 pieces chosen from over 200 submissions of school-assessed coursework.
The anthology highlights original fiction, non-fiction, poetry and theatre created through VCE Literature Unit 4’s “Creative Responses to Texts” – an outcome that encourages students to reimagine and respond creatively to literature studied in class.
Lucinda’s story, “Simon Says it’s the End of the World and Each Other”, draws inspiration from Elizabeth Tan’s distinctive style and themes, emulating the quirky tone of her short story collection, “Smart Ovens for Lonely People.”
The new Top Scribe program fills a creative gap in the VCE Season of Excellence, which already features showcases in visual art, design, film and performance.
Lucinda’s inclusion marks a proud achievement for her as the school community celebrates her place among Victoria’s most promising young writers.
