Smoking Ceremony to Open Indigenous Round
In fostering the connection between the Brayakaulung people of the Gunaikurnai Nation, the traditional owners of the land upon which St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School students learn, Cultural Leader Michelle Dow, from Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation, attended the South Eastern Independent Schools Association (SEISA) intermediate boys football game to officially open the very first Indigenous Round.
Standing together around the centre circle prior to the first bounce, players from both St Paul’s and Gippsland Grammar, as well as umpires and coaching staff, participated in the ceremony.
This smoking ceremony is a new step by St Paul’s in forming a deeper connection and relationship to the local Indigenous culture.
