Inspiring tomorrow’s athletes

Aspiring student-athletes in St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School’s High Performance Program (HPP) gained valuable insights into elite sport at the annual HPP Seminar Day, featuring four sporting professionals.

Organised by HPP Coordinator Scott Armour, the event connected students with a range of sporting pathways and experiences. This year’s guest speakers included Australian Diamonds netball squad member and Melbourne Vixens player Hannah Mundy, former A-League soccer player and Melbourne City Assistant Coach Scott Jamieson, Australian diving squad member Laura Hingston, and elite athlete performance dietitian Sophie Houghton.

Students from Years 7 to 12 heard about the presenters’ individual journeys, from early career progression to competing and working on the global stage. Their stories highlighted that there is no single pathway to success in elite sport, with dedication, resilience, appropriate nutrition and recovery all playing an important role.

Through the HPP, students can personalise their educational experience to help balance their academic commitments with high-level sporting demands. The program provides access to guest speakers, elite athletes and industry leaders, while educators offer additional guidance and flexibility to support students as they pursue their sporting goals alongside their studies.
