Empowering future student leaders
Emerging Year 8 leaders from St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School joined peers from across several SEISA schools for a powerful day of learning, connection and inspiration at the SEISA Middle Leaders Day, an initiative designed to strengthen leadership capacity in the middle years and beyond.
SEISA, the South Eastern Independent Schools Association, comprises member schools Beaconhills College (Berwick and Pakenham), Newhaven College, Gippsland Grammar and St Paul’s (Traralgon and Warragul), and delivers interschool co-curricular events and competitions across sporting and cultural fields.
Hosted at St Paul’s Traralgon Campus, the Middle Leaders Day was developed by SEISA school leaders in response to a recognised gap in leadership opportunities for students in the middle years. Students who attended were identified by educators as emerging leaders, regardless of whether they hold a formal leadership title, reflecting the belief that leadership potential exists in every student.
The day centred on servant leadership, empowering students to lead by serving others and shaping positive change within their school communities and beyond. Guided by Rosedale Neighbourhood House Manager Rich Langham, students engaged in two whole-group presentations before breaking into smaller workshop sessions, gaining insight through real-life experiences and practical applications.
By providing the Middle Leaders Day, educators and SEISA organisers empowered students to recognise their strengths, understand their capacity to influence others positively and with integrity, and begin laying the foundations for leadership growth that extends well beyond their school years.
